Enroll in a Training Program to Ensure Hospitality Industry Success

Pastry Chef by Jane Smallman

The hospitality industry covers a wide spectrum of activities, from hotels, motels, restaurants, cafes and bars to casinos, fitness centers, hospitals, and schools. On-the-job training used to be the way most employees learnt their profession, but today, graduation from a hospitality-orientated certificate or degree program has become increasingly important.
Combine your love of food with hands-on training from the best instructors in the business at Florida Culinary Institute.

The US Bureau of Labor Studies has forecast that the hospitality industry is set to grow over the next decade. Employment in the hotels and accommodation sector is expected to increase by 17% up to 2012 (compared with a 16% projected growth for all industries combined).

Job growth is also expected in the food services and drinking sector due to increases in dining sophistication, population, and family incomes. This means that there will be more opportunities than ever for anyone who has the ambition to succeed, coupled with the right sort of skills and training

Which Hospitality Industry Training Should You Seek?

In the past, the hospitality industry used to fulfill its own training needs and it was rare for new employees to be graduates of any specialized hospitality training program.

Today, although many organizations in the hospitality industry still carry out an in-house training program, employees who are graduates of a hospitality-orientated certificate or degree program will have a strong advantage. Suitable hospitality training programs would include any of the following:
  • Certificate programs in a hospitality-related subject, such as Restaurant Management; Baking and Pastry; Culinary Arts; or Hot Foods.
  • Associate of Arts/Science Degree programs in subjects such as Culinary Arts; Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management; or Hospitality Management.
  • Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree programs in Hospitality Management; Culinary Arts; or Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management.

For a career in the hospitality industry, any of the above training programs will help to equip you with the knowledge and skills you will need to succeed in the industry.
