Hollywood has its stars and the culinary world has its pastry chefs. Your pastry chef career can lead you to the very top of the food preparation pyramid.

A formal kitchen has many different chefs. There is the salad chef, the sauce chef, and a whole army of sous chefs. None of them commands the kind of respect and admiration as that given to a really top pastry chef.


A chef whose education concentrates on pastry is considered an artist among artists. In fact, being an artist and creating edible works of art is part of the job description for a pastry chef.

Going to Pastry Chef School

It is not difficult to find really good pastry art schools. As the number of pastry chef jobs has grown, so has the number of pastry schools. There was a time when it was necessary to travel to Europe to attend a pastry chef school in Paris or Vienna.

Today it is possible to find these institutions across the United States and Canada. You can go to a French pastry school in Chicago or New York. You can earn your chef degree in pastry through a California pastry chef school.

In addition to learning the intricacies of a modern professional kitchen, you'll also learn the fine art of baking. You'll be taught how to make soft, flaky pastry, how to spin great creations out of sugar, and how to become a master sculptor in chocolate.

It won't be long before you are ready to take your first pastry chef job and start working your way toward culinary stardom.
