Greatest Grilled Cheese in America
You might not think there'd be many variations of the old grilled cheese sandwich recipe, but that didn't stop DuPont Teflon from holding a contest to crown the "Greatest Grilled Cheese in America". Over 6,000 people submitted recipes and the big winner was Ashley Berman of Coral Gables, FL. Ashley's "Caribbean Grill" recipe features mango salsa and curry powder, with some honey mustard added for good measure. Winners were crowned in subcategories including Gourmet, Kid's Favorite, Regionally Inspired ("Dairyland Cheddar Cranapple Grill" from Wisconsin), and, believe it or not, Low Carb. The Low Carb winner substituted eggplant slices for bread which, while probably very tasty, doesn't sound like a true grilled cheese sandwich to me.
