Benedictine Father Baking His Way toward the Pearly Gates
Father Garromone teaches religion and drama at the St. Bede academy in Peru, IL. He also unofficially runs a baking school. The modest father loves baking, which has made him quite popular throughout the school and given him a taste of local celebrity.
Actor, Baker, or Friar?
Father Garromone's mother and grandmother influenced his love of baking. At a very early age, the brother-to-be picked up some culinary tools by hanging out in his kitchen, beating dough, measuring sugar, and performing other essential baking tasks. He initially went to school to become an actor, but decided in the end to turn to the cloth. His love of baking may be the creative outlet that he substituted for acting.
A Baking Course Taught on High
While teaching religion and drama at his parochial school in Peru, IL, Father Garromone has picked up a few baking students. Calling them his "kitchen angels," the Father holds unofficial baking courses for these students. Some of them have expressed interest in going into the culinary arts because of his mentoring.
