Hospitality Training Becomes Official in Palm Beach County

Until two years ago, Palm Beach County, one of the largest tourist destination spots in Florida, didn't have a public university that offered a degree in hospitality. A local university began offering such a degree two years ago and has seen enrollment increase from 3 to 110 in one year.

The growing popularity of the local hospitality degree program is not surprising. Area restaurants and hotels have been clamoring for college hospitality training program for years. They want to be able to hire people that they know have been through a rigorous hospitality school, and a hospitality degree program offers that assurance.

Hospitality School Becoming Quite Popular

Apparently, the hospitality school receives thousands of requests from businesses interested in creating associations with the school. This interest indicates a very tight hospitality labor market waiting to be tapped by the school's graduates. News of increasing hospitality jobs is getting around, and the university estimates to see enrollment jump up to 300 by the next school year.

Hospitality Training is Quite Detailed

While in hospitality school, students are exposed to some very detailed training courses. Avoiding lawsuits is one area where students have to do extensive reading. For example, they are required to examine the landmark court case brought against McDonald's for serving coffee that was too hot. Students are also taught about safety regulations and the steps that need to be taken to minimize accidents.

Attend Hospitality School in Tourism Destinations

If you are interested in attending hospitality school, look at schools in areas with high rates of tourism. Those schools tend to have relationships with area companies that help their graduates find good hospitality jobs post graduation.
