There's a great story in yesterday's Detroit News ("Culinary Team Cooks Up a Title") about a team of high school-age chefs who took first place in the hot foods competition at the National Restaurant Association's ProStart Student Invitational competition in Orlando. The story talks about their experience as an example of more comprehensive career education programs that are sweeping the nation, better preparing students for future careers.
Because of the popularity of TV cooking shows, more and more students are expressing interest in the culinary arts program, and most are very good students, Gary said. "They're more motivated and better students overall," she said. "There's been a major shift in interest levels from kids who have the capability of becoming a chef, not just learning how to cook. It's not a career for the faint of heart."
Definitely an article worth reading if you're interested in becoming a chef someday. And after you read it, come back here and check out some schools where you can start your own culinary training!
