Chef Volunteers Cooking Lessons for Kids

There's a great article in the Houston Chronicle about a local pastry chef, educated at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, who teaches cooking weekly cooking classes at the Boys & Girls Club called Kids Caf. Covering a different food group each week, chef Laura Hamilton teaches the kids kitchen techniques and how to prepare easy meals ranging from vegetable stir-frys to fruit smoothies. Remembering her own excitement over cooking as a child, Hamilton tries to pass that same excitement on to a new generation:

Hamilton says her mom, who was from Spain, and her dad, who was from Cuba, always made cooking a priority. "As a family we never ate out, we always cooked together," she said. "I know I was so blessed when I was growing up, and I want these kids to experience how empowering cooking can be."

It's a nice, inspirational story for all chefs; your love of cooking doesn't have to be limited to just your own kitchen -- get out there and share!
