Prepare for... Battle Watermelon!
Okay, it's not Iron Chef, but the American Culinary Federation (ACF) is holding its annual Chef of the Year competition today in Orlando, FL -- part of its 75th annual convention that brings together hundreds of the nation's leading chefs for cooking demonstrations and panel discussions. The Chef of the Year competition began in 1963 and is the highest honor annually bestowed by the ACF.
The four chefs in this year's competition survived regional qualifiers (southeast, central, northeast, and west) to get to the finals. Each chef must prepare a three-course meal (soup, appetizer, and entre) from scratch in just over two hours before an audience of 1,500 other chefs. The dishes are then judged by a jury of professional culinary judges, food-service industry leaders and members of the news media. The winner gets the coveted Chef of the Year award and $5,000. We'll post the winner's name (and winning dishes) here as soon as we know.
